Continuing Education Approval Program
We are authorized by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Social Work Registration to approve programs for Massachusetts organizations who are looking to provide CEs for licensed social workers who attend their trainings. Approvals under this program do not offer ASWB ACE credit.
Approvals for Massachusetts programs will be valid within our two-year licensing cycle, which runs from October 1st – September 30th. We are currently accepting applications for Massachusetts programs for the October 1st, 2024 – September 30th, 2026 cycle.
Process
Please submit your application well before the event date, as we do not allow for retroactive approvals. We ask that you submit the application at least three (3) weeks before the event takes place and no more than 3 months before the event.
Once applications are submitted, we review them in order of the proposed event date. Following a review of the application, we will either send an approval, or provide the appropriate feedback so that the application can be improved to meet our approval criteria. All applications must have content that is applicable to social workers in order to receive approval.

A work cited list that meets the following criteria
Please provide a reference list in APA format of at least five articles or books, which will be distributed to program participants. Please provide references that are: 1) recent (in the last 5 years) 2) peer-reviewed 3) inclusive of the current scientific literature on the topic. At least half of the references must reflect research published within the last 5 years.
An agenda please share an outline of the program
Please share an outline of the program and its topic areas, including breaks. CEs will be rounded down to the nearest whole or half number. Note that breaks cannot be included in the total instruction time or the allotted CE hours.
3-5 measurable learning objectives that include action verbs from this list Resources for ACE
A Post Test Quiz (only required for virtual programs) of the following criteria. This is not necessary if your program is in-person
This is a test of the participant’s knowledge after the program. This also serves as proof of their attendance throughout the offering. The post-test quiz should feature questions that have objectively correct answers. The post-test quiz should be graded to ensure that participants obtained the information presented and can be provided a CE certificate. The post-test quiz must consist of 10 questions for the first hour, and 5 questions for each additional hour. For half credits, you must add an additional 3 questions. Questions may include multiple choice, short answer, fill-in-the-blank, and True/False Questions. However, True/ False questions may not account for over half of the questions.
Evaluation of the following criteria
The evaluation should be designed to gather feedback on the program and whether the program’s learning objectives were met. In the evaluation, please list out each of the learning objectives and ask learners to rate how well they were met.
Certificate of Completion of the following criteria
The certificate should feature your organization, the participant’s name, the date of the program, and the number of CEs offered. It also needs to indicate the appropriate CE language for Massachusetts:
“This lecture has been approved by The Network for Professional Education at Boston University School of Social Work which is authorized through the MA state board of Social Work to provide CE Credit Hours. Continuing Education (CE) credits for this program are only valid for the time period between October 1, 2024 and September 30, 2026
