September 23rd: Practical Tools for Nervous System Regulation

Live Webinar

Description

This interactive training reviews the biology of the nervous system and equips helping professionals with practical strategies to recognize signs of stress and respond with evidence-informed techniques that promote regulation. Participants will learn how stress affects the body, how to identify when someone may be dysregulated, and why their own regulation plays an important role in supporting others.

Through demonstrations and guided practice, participants will learn grounding and co-regulation techniques that can be incorporated into client interactions across a variety of settings. This workshop will increase provider and client confidence in building long-term resilience, empowering self-regulation, and foster healthy co-regulation within professional and personal environments.

Objectives

After this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the three primary states of the autonomic nervous system—ventral vagal, sympathetic, and dorsal vagal—and how they manifest as specific behaviors in clinical and interpersonal contexts.
  2. Explain the “bottom-up” clinical model and describe how physiological stabilization allows a client to move from a reactive state to an intentional, regulated state.
  3. Apply at least three discrete somatic grounding techniques designed to assist clients in de-escalating during high-stress clinical interactions or home visits.
  4. Demonstrate co-regulation strategies through role-play to model nervous system resilience for clients in real-time.
  5. Categorize a client’s neurobiological state within a case-conceptualization exercise to determine the most effective clinical intervention for that specific state.

Course Outline

This training will review Autonomic Nervous System & Polyvagal Theory, “Top-Down vs. Bottom-Up” Clinical Practices, and how to recognize client state. Somatic Grounding and Co-Regulation Tools & Practices of 5-4-3-2-1 Sensory Grounding, Butterfly Hug with Bilateral Tapping, and the Self Containment Hold will be covered.
